Steps Programme

S
upport Target Evolve Progress Succeed

The Steps programme supports you achieve your goals. It consists of six one to one sessions with a qualified instructor to determine your workout programme and puts the plan in place to help you succeed.

The first session is the introductory session. In it, you will work with your instructor to determine your overall goals, your timeframe for success and your exercise programme. Your instructor will assist you with the chosen form of exercise; this might be the gym, swimming or exercise classes. If your chosen exercise is the gym they will show you the correct technique to use the equipment safely and appropriately. They will also explain the gym etiquette so there's no need to feel apprehensive or uneasy about the gym. Those days of gyms being all about muscle bound men lifting impossibly heavy weights are over! However if the gym is not for you they will help you build other forms of exercise into your lifestyle so it becomes regular and helps you to achieve your goals.  If you are interested in swimming, please take a look at our Liquid Swim programme.

After the introductory session, you can choose another five sessions from the following list of ten. This means that your programme is tailored to what you need instead of a standard programme for everyone that may not be appropriate to you.

Steps Sessions

Goal setting - You've taken out a membership for a reason. This session helps you flesh out these reasons, articulate them and put in place a plan to achieve them. The plan will be specific, measurable, realistic, time focussed and realistic - for you and your lifestyle.

Nutrition - Concentrating on your diet will assist you in achieving your goals and in this session, we focuse on what types of food you consume and when.  You will then work with your instructor to determine whether they are categorised as red, amber or green type foods. You will then identify the healthiest options to support your goals.

Planning - Things always come up and there's always an excuse not to exercise. This session is to help you come up with solutions so that when those unplanned events happen you have a fallback time to exercise so you don't miss out on your workout and fall behind in achieving your goals.

Motivation - Choose this session when you feel yourself thinking things like 'I'm bored', 'I can't be bothered today' or 'I don't want to exercise today'. Your instructor will help you through 30 minutes of your workout, offering advice, making it interesting and fun. It is designed to motivate you to continue your workout by supporting you and taking your mind off the pain.

Postural Assessment - The objective of this session is to identify any technique or postural problems with the three main movement patterns (squat/push/pull). If possible, the instructor should correct any technique or provide a referral to correct any longer term issues.

Priorities - When fitness is incorporated into your everyday life, you are more likely to achieve your identified goals.  In this session, you will identify the key elements of your life, prioritise them and plan in time for exercise.

Decisional Balance - In this session, you will discuss the negatives and positives of starting an exercise programme and the drivers and barriers of continuing exercise. This understanding will assist you in achieving your goals by thinking about what you will gain or lose by doing or not doing certain exercises or exercise programmes.

Troubleshooting - Choose this session after completing the goal setting, planning and priorities sessions if you are not achieving the expected results. It focuses on the reasons why this could be and discusses solutions and plans to turn this around for success.

Problem Solving - We recommend choosing this when you feel that your exercise routine is no longer working for you and you're struggling to move forward towards achieving your goal. It consists of your instructor asking you specifically designed questions aimed at helping resolve the underlying issues and solving them together.

Programme Review - The instructor will discuss your progress, review your programme, technique, frequency, intensity, time and type of exercise with you to ensure that you are continually challenged and your programme meets your goals.

What's more - you'll also be rewarded with a T-shirt, water bottle and towel during the programme!

Steps is a complimentary programme designed for new platinum members and is £60 for pay as you go members.
