Sobell Leisure Centre improvements – new ice rink coming

Islington Council will be investing £1.7 million in improvements to the Sobell Leisure Centre including:

• Installing a new ice rink from January to April
• Roof repairs from April to June
• Heating, lighting and ventilation system improvements from February to July
• Some minor internal redecorations throughout the building
• Replacement of the sports hall floor in the summer holidays.

Where possible the work will be phased in order to minimise disruption – but the ice rink will have to close during January to April.  Skaters will need to use alternative facilities during this time, such as the rink at Alexandra Palace.

The council is still committed to redeveloping the site in the longer term and aims to re-use items such as the new ice rink for a new, improved Leisure Centre.
