MEND (mind, exercise, nutrition, do it!)
Aquaterra Leisure run MEND programmes in partnership with local
NHS primary care trusts and councils. MEND is a
free 10 or 20 week community-based programme
which aims to help children become fitter, healthier and
happier.
The programmes run for 10 or 20 weeks, with two sessions
per week taking place after school. Find out about programme dates

MEND is an organisation dedicated to reducing global childhood
and family overweight and obesity levels. The evidence based MEND
Programme was devised at the world renowned Great Ormond Street
Hospital for Children and the University College London Institute
of Child Health. It includes a team of pediatric dieticians, child
psychologists and researchers. MEND is a national programme and
families are now taking part in more than 300 programmes across the
UK every school term. MEND have also taken their work to other
countries, including Australia, Denmark and the United States.
With an emphasis on practical, fun learning, the programme is
designed to deliver sustained improvements in families' diets,
fitness levels and overall health. By following the MEND
principles, participants will lose weight naturally and thereby
build a foundation for healthy living - for life.
It combines all the elements known to be vital in treating and
preventing obesity in children, including family involvement,
practical education in nutrition and diet, increasing physical
activity and behavioural change.
MEND includes:
• Weekly games and activities
• Learning that being active is lots of fun
• Interactive sessions to improve self-confidence
• Practical demonstrations about healthy food
