Lifeguarding

The Royal Lifesaving Society's National Pool Lifeguard Qualification is the UK's premier lifeguard training award. Gaining this award is the ideal way to enter into the leisure industry. It is accepted at every pool in the UK and also has widespread international recognition.

The syllabus includes pool supervision, rescue techniques, resuscitation, first aid, spinal injury management and health and safety in leisure centres. Each course is 33 hours in length plus an assessment. Full attendance is required. Once the qualification is gained it is valid for two years.

It is a prerequisite for this course that you must be 16 or over, a competent swimmer (minimum eight lengths non-stop in front crawl or breast stroke), with a high level of water confidence and have a good level of fitness. The ability to speak English well is also essential to passing the assessment. Please see the basic lifeguarding fitness requirements.

All the pools managed by Aquaterra Leisure are Royal Life Saving Society approved training centres. Click on the centres listed to the left to find out about course dates and prices.
