About the centre

Built on the original site of the old 1920s Highbury Fields Lido, Highbury Pool has been extremely popular since it opened in 1984, and now gets around 400,000 visitors a year. The first purpose built gym was added in 1996 and  thanks to one of the first National Lottery grants, and this gym doubled in size in 2000.

In 2007 Islington Council invested £1.6m for a major refurbishment which included  two new exercise studios, new larger sauna and steam suite, a revamp of the reception and changing rooms and an expansion of the gym from 60 to 110 exercise stations.

Now called Highbury Pool & Fitness Centre, the building is more environmentally friendly with 32 solar panels on the roof, meaning the pool water is heated by sunlight. It also has a charging bay for electric cars.

Highbury Pool & Fitness Centre is a member of the London Fitness Network.
