Cardiac Rehabilitation

Cardiac rehabilitation is completed in four phases, with the first two being the actual cardiac event, such as a heart attack or surgery and any contact with a health professional after discharge from hospital.

Phase III is a medically monitored exercise programme. It mixes physical activity with risk factor modification (education sessions) in order to help with the recovery and strengthening of the body. Patients are then referred to Phase IV which mainly concentrates on the continuation of physical activity through circuit classes, gym sessions etc.

Aquaterra Leisure runs a Phase IV programme in partnership with Whittington NHS Trust and Islington Primary Care Trust. There are four exercise sessions a week and patients are given eight free sessions. All the sessions are gym-based.
