Award winning guitarist MARTIN TAYLOR has established a unique musical career as an internationally acclaimed musician, and his inimitable style has seen him recognised as the world's foremost exponent of solo jazz guitar playing.

As well as being a true guitar innovator, he is also a master concert performer, dazzling audiences with his solo shows, which combine virtuosity, emotion, humour, with a strong stage presence.

Sylvie Courvoisier
Sylvie Courvoisier’s music imbues the New York downtown sound with the esoteric beauty of contemporary European music. Her new quintet, Lonelyville, is an exciting new synthesis of Avant-jazz, contemporary composition and live electronics.

Lonelyville brings together a carefully selected ensemble to create a unique sound world, from the achingly delicate to raging chordal blocks. Electronic artist Ikue Mori has continuously worked at the cutting edge of soundart with cult artists including John Zorn and Kim Gordon. Mighty Gerald Cleaver provides a dramatic rhythmic foundation; virtuoso French cellist Vincent Courtois and American violinist Mark Feldman are renowned for assimilating edgy jazz improvisations with textural compositions in an excitingly visceral way.

Following last Festival’s Mingus events, Bath Music Festival delves into the cool world of the inimitable Thelonious Monk - whose angular melodies, distinctive harmonies and sense of swing and style still influence today's musicians.

Commissioned by the San Francisco Jazz Festival and Chicago Symphony Hall, IN MY MIND is a multimedia performance inspired by the legendary 1959 Thelonious Monk New York Town Hall gig.

The prodigiously gifted pianist and composer Jason Moran and his New York trio combine with hottest talent in British jazz to perform this major new work, to original film footage from Monk’s iconic performance. More than just a brilliant performer on Blue Note records, 31 year-old pianist Moran has established himself as a risk-taker, a great band-leader, and a seeker of new directions for jazz.

The 31 year-old pianist Moran has proven, after seven years on the estimable Blue Note Records, more than his brilliance as a performer. He’s established himself as a risk-taker, a seeker of new directions for jazz as a whole.

The Marriage of Figaro
After their wonderful performance of King Arthur, the Armonico Consort return to Bath with Mozart's effervescent opera The Marriage of Figaro

Orchestra of the Baroque

Christopher Monks Conductor
Kit Hesketh Harvey Libretto
Michael McCaffrey Director

After their wonderful performance of King Arthur, the Armonico Consort return to Bath with mozart's effervescent opera The Marriage of Figaro.

Beaumarchais' revolutionary play stood 18th century society on its head: the story of a lascivious, bullying count being outfoxed by his street-smart servant was bound to appeal to a lively, brilliant composer who clashed with authority all his life. Armonico Consort's sparkling new production of Mozart's raciest opera fields an energetic young cast, headed by the Australian baritone Simon Thorpe, fresh from his roles at Opera North. Kit Hesketh Harvey's new translation of Da Ponte's quickfire libretto promises an evening of delicious fun and bittersweet romance - a perfect operatic night out for all ages.

Wired to Sound
A five hour electronica and nu-jazz feast headed by Norway's Nils Petter Molvær, with Mira Calix

Nils Petter Molvær trumpet
Jan Bang electronics
DJ Strangefruit turntables

Mira Calix Set Against Strings
Pamelia Kurstin theremin
Fulborn Teversham

A mindblowing night of jazz, skronk and electronica music with some of the most original musicians on the scene.

The forefather of so-called nu-jazz from Norway, the hypnotic soundscapes of Norwegian trumpeter Nils Petter Molvær hover over the dark, primal beats of his electronic collaborators, Jan Bang and Strangefruit.

Mira Calix links the underground electro-club world of Warp records with collaborative projects at the coal face of contemporary classical. Set Against Strings pairs Mira’s delicate electronics and vocal samples with the emotive voice of solo cello.

Pamelia Kurstin delves into the surreal analogue world of the original electronic instrument, the evocative, filmic sound of the theremin.

Fulborn Teversham’s raw thrash, punk-inspired jazz anarchy is the most recent incarnation of the formidable, fearsome duo Seb Rochford and Pete Wareham (Polar Bear & Acoustic Ladyland), fronted by quirky vocalist Alice Grant.
