Nigel's Success Stories
Jean Campbell
When my physiotherapist, two and a half years ago, suggested that the best thing I could do for the arthritis in my feet and knees, as well as for the Repetitive Strain Injury (RSI) in my arm, was to go to the gym to strengthen the muscles, I was a bit surprised.
However, I was willing to have a go, so I went along to Aquaterra Leisure's Bath Sports & Leisure Centre for information. I took a membership which included a personal trainer. Being over 60, I got a very good discount.
Nigel was, and still is, very helpful and supportive in introducing me to the machines and in putting together a programme of exercise. I have worked hard at it and I'm delighted with the results to date. I no longer need to take anti-inflammatory pills because the joints in my feet no longer hurt. The RSI has lessened to the extent that I can use a computer again and can carry shopping. I am now looking for a job.
So all the effort in the gym has been worthwhile.
Whatever your age, if advised to improve your health or to relieve pain by going to a gym, then do. As my son always says; ‘Go for it Mum’.

When conventional treatments failed to ease an ongoing back injury, my GP recommended that I try going to the gym in addition to Pilates class.
I was very nervous at first but I had a lengthy induction with a personal trainer; Nigel, who took on board my injury and what I was hoping to achieve. I began having weekly sessions.
Gradually my back became stronger and I was delighted when I finally went a whole week with no pain. Now I only get pain very occasionally and in addition to my back becoming stronger I’ve become much fitter and more toned. Lots of my friends have commented on how well and fit I look, which makes it all worth it!
It’s been hard work but Nigel knows what my limits are and encourages me. He always explains everything, listens and makes me feel at ease. I owe a lot to Nigel and he deserves a lot of the credit. I wouldn’t have got this far without him. I actually look forward to my weekly sessions now. “Thanks Nige”.

When I first joined the gym I exercised on my own but a virus meant I couldn’t work out for a few weeks and I realised I could easily slip backwards in spite of the considerable effort I had already expended.
I decided I needed help and I arranged for Nigel to be my personal trainer. A year on, the benefits of this support are many fold. I have felt supported, he makes sure the technique of my exercises is correct, and he has a creative approach that makes it a stimulating learning experience with oneself at the centre.
Nigel has motivated me to go to exercise classes, such as spinning, and really gain from them. He’s motivated me to go beyond my previous physical limitations and this has been helpful mentally in other life situations too.
It’s thrilling to see changes and feel stronger. At 42 I felt truly washed out and on a downward spiral. After committing myself to looking after my body and what I’m learning with Nigel, at 44 I feel 100% better than I did 10 years ago.

I had been training on and off for many years without any guidance and never really achieving the results that I desired. Having worked through a period of introductory sessions with Nigel after joining the sports centre in February 08, I started to make real progress.
The first step was to actually sit down and discuss my realistic goals, taking into account my personal situation and how much time I could afford to commit to training. I found it was the first time I had actually set myself specific targets to aim for rather than just training. Being able to discuss my goals with someone who could personalise a program to help me achieve them really helped my focus as I knew I was heading in the right direction and the training was getting results.
Having made good progress in the initial months of training, I decided to take up the option of personal training with Nigel and have since been meeting with him on a flexible fortnightly basis. We have continuously reassessed my goals and updated my program to introduce new exercises and training methods. The extra motivation I get during the personal training sessions has helped me to push myself harder. This, combined with the variety provided by incorporating new exercises and techniques into my program, has helped me to keep progressing and improving.
I have found the individual attention invaluable in terms of exercise technique, lifestyle and motivation. Being able to ask any questions I have and discuss my exercise program in detail with Nigel on a frequent basis has really helped me to achieve results I had been seeking for many years. I would thoroughly recommend to anyone who has trained and found they are not achieving their goals to enquire about personal training as it has been a great success for me.
