Yoga combines a series of postures, and coordinated breathing techniques. The postures are designed to help develop strength and flexibility by utilizing all the muscles in the body, increasing circulation, and stretching and aligning the spinal column. Although usually not considered an aerobic exercise (some postures are done rapidly), yoga has health benefits, such as the reduction of stress.

It also improves balance, increases mental alertness and helps prevent injuries.

The benefits of Yoga

Yoga postures, called asanas, cover a wide range of movement. They improve stamina and flexibility and are practised by a wide range of athletes and sports people.

The breathing techniques, called pranayama, are calming and help create energy.

Each yoga class ends with a period of relaxation, enabling students to leave a class feeling refreshed and restored. Practising Yoga directly affects the mind and emotions and leads to a feeling of physical and mental well being
